A Palace born from the Stone
The foundations of Palazzo Zicari sink into the thousand-year-old caves of Sassi, once simple cave rock, then transformed into stately homes by the sixteenth century. The signs of time can still be read on the stone surfaces, which give the feeling of a place where history is never finished. The building has welcomed over the centuries noble families, prelates and prominent personalities of the city.
Restoration: When the Past Reborn
The restoration of the building, signed by the company D'Alessandro Restauri, is a virtuous example of valorization of cultural heritage. The intervention, rigorous and inspired by the maximum preservation of authenticity, has returned life and splendor to every environment. The most prestigious recognition came in 2020, with the 1st prize as best recovery of UNESCO heritage, awarded to Foligno on proposal of the Club for UNESCO of the Vulture.

One of the most surprising aspects of the building is the wise management of natural light. In particular, the breakfast room - entirely carved out of a cave - enchants every morning with a ray of sunshine that gently penetrates into space, without any artificial aid. An extraordinary detail, which reveals the mastery of those who, centuries ago, could shape the stone following the rhythms of the sun.

Palazzo Zicari has been selected among the places of excellence of the FAI Autumn Days 2024, receiving hundreds of visitors curious to discover the restoration, history and environments of the BV Quarry Matera. An award that celebrates the cultural and architectural value of the entire complex.

Between cinema and hospitality
It is no coincidence that Palazzo Zicari has also attracted the world of cinema: among its rooms have stayed technicians, stuntmen and collaborators of the film "No Time To Die" (2021), the last chapter of the James Bond saga shot in Matera. The structure was also a place of rest for actors and crews of the television series "Imma Tataranni - Sostituto Procuratore", set in the alleys of the city.
